Real estate agents and experts packed the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre last week to experience the latest in proptech innovation.
This year’s REIQ RealTech event was sold out, and there was a real buzz among the crowd, REIQ general manager Josh Callaghan said.
“The content was both inspiring and challenging, covering everything from international hacking tactics to the latest in artificial intelligence.”
The event echoed that there will be an endless march of technology within the real estate industry. If you do not adapt, agencies run the risk of becoming irrelevant, Mr Callaghan said.
“The common advice offered by both the speakers and the proptechs that demoed was to make sure you understand the problem you’re trying to solve, and then find the right technology to solve that problem.”
The critical messages taken away was that technology is here to help, not hinder, human connection – emphasising the theme of the event, “How to stay human in a changing world.”
There was not a dull moment in the room, as MC Keran McKenzie kept the room entertained. There was plenty of laughs and inspirational moments with discussions on ‘visions of future success’, and a refined conversation about how AI and technology are not about disruption, but to help enable.
From an agency view, technology is only worthwhile when the correct processes are in place, Ray White concierge CEO Kelly Tatlow said.
She explored how technology has transformed real estate, and REA Group’s Whitney Cali deflated some common consumer myths.
Facebook was also explored as a platform real estate agents could further harness.
Facebook certified marketer John Hellaby explored how the social media platform can get results for agents if it is used properly. And he uncovered only 10 per cent of agents are doing so.
The event gave a deep insight into the proptech that is out there, and what is yet to come.
