Parents of children going to three small schools in a small Queensland community will get a hand to prepare their kids for a new school year.
The team at Ray White Centenary decided to reach beyond its community this year to have a broader impact this festive season.
The team campaigned and raised more than $2,000 that will be split between three small schools in the St George, Queensland, area to help with school supplies.
The schools that will receive the funds are Begonia State School, which has 11 students and one teacher; Thallon State School, with 31 students and two teachers; and Bollon State School, with 13 children and one teacher.
“We tried to do something extra special this year,” Ray White Centenary’s Natasha Johns said.
“The schools will receive vouchers for their families, who will spend the funds at their local news agents to buy stationery and other supplies for the next school year who have also partnered with the program.”
The program benefits families, but it also supports a local business which has also struggled during the drought.
Staff, tenants, landlords and tradespeople all dug deep to make this donation possible, Ray White Centenary principal Geoff Williams said.
“How can it not make you happy to be able to help anyone but especially the kids? I’m really happy the staff have come up with such a terrific plan,” he said.
Some landlords had their donation deducted from their rent, while others paid into the agency’s Ray of Giving account.
“We’ve made it as easy as possible for people to donate,” Ms Johns said.
