A Brisbane-based agency has recognised the blurring line between work and personal life, so it has embraced flexibility to find a solution.
Last year, a survey conducted by REINZ found that an overwhelming number of its members had challenges separating work and personal life.
The REINZ survey of its members found 82 per cent of branch managers struggled to find the goldilocks zone between work and play, while those who had been in the industry between six and 10 years sat at 80 per cent.
Hutton & Hutton (H & H) has realised modern technology makes it harder for agents to maintain a healthy work/life balance, so it is looking for solutions.
Although the balance will differ from agent to agent, H & H Inner North agent Stefan Blee believes a workplace that is willing to prioritise work/life balance can make it work.
“I’m new to H & H, but so far, my requests to work from home and work within my marketplace have been met without hesitation,” Mr Blee said.
“It’s helped me be more available to my family when I need to be and more available to my clients rather than chained to a desk.”
The environment at the office also plays a significant part, and for Mr Blee, going to work feels like time spent with extended family.
Additionally, the agency also values mental health, which plays a role in a healthy work/life balance, H & H Inner North leasing manager Lucy Hutton said.
“I am encouraged to turn off email notifications when I’m at home so I can really focus on myself and my life; I always make sure my clients have the necessary after-hours contact details though,” she said.
“I also love that when I’m at work, I’m able to do things to relax for a couple of minutes.”
Ms Hutton enjoys that she can bring her dog into the office.
“It not only makes us less stressed worrying about them at home, but a little bit of dog time makes everyone a lot happier.”
Although these are just small steps H & H have adopted to find a balance between work and play, the agency is open to taking new methods of helping its agents have a healthy work/life balance.
