Property development and real estate leaders hit the streets this week to sell copies of The Big Issue.

It is part of the magazine’s CEO Selling event, where people who are more accustomed to boardrooms and elegant suits can put on a fluoro vest, head to the streets and support those who experience homelessness.

The week celebrates the 9,000 street vendors who sell the magazine to support their lives in 35 different countries.

“Having CEOs come together this week to help sell the magazine is an incredible display of support for those experiencing homelessness, marginalisation and disadvantage,” The Big Issue CEO Steven Persson said.

“By standing with the vendors, they are sending the message to the community that vendors are legitimate business people who are working hard to change their lives.”

Mr Persson hopes the week will encourage people to meet their local vendor to purchase a copy of the magazine.

Among those who will be on the streets include REA CEO Owen Wilson, Property Council of Australia Victoria executive director Cressida Wall, LWP Property Group’s Danny Murphy and Property Council of Australia chief executive Ken Morrison.

The industry leaders will be selling alongside the 800 vendors who sell The Big Issue across Australia, who purchase the magazine for $4.50 and sell them for $9 with the profit going towards their income.
