Over the next 15 years, 36,000 people in real estate are at risk of being replaced by technology, a new report says.
This finding was part of a report by ACS and Faethm, which highlighted how 2.7 million jobs across Australia are at risk of being automated in the next 15 years.
In positions in the rental, hiring and real estate services industry, it found that roles are more subject to augmentation, rather than automation.
It found real estate agents are the most augmentable role, with the potential to add to 46,000 agent roles.
Although many roles are at risk of becoming redundant, the report also expects more than twice as many positions will be created if the nation invests in its workforce.
The report predicts that over the next 15 years, about 79,000 new jobs could be added to the rental hiring and real estate services industry.
Of those, 19,000 will be technical jobs and 60,000 will be non-technical.
“In addition to occupations and skills requirement forecasts, we also wanted to explore the degree to which imbalances might exist between the adaptability and future-readiness of workers across industries,” ACS CEO Andrew Johnson said.
“The outcomes tabled in our Technology Impacts on the Australian Workforce report provide deep insights for businesses to inform future workforce development plans, as well as for policymakers to maximise the participation rate of all citizens in the opportunities afforded by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
