In an attempt to get more women represented in the mortgage broking industry, one company has started a recruitment campaign.

Smartline Personal Mortgage Advisers aims to boost the number of women as part of its company, and has launched a 12-month campaign called Future Female Brokers.

The program is for women who sign up as new franchisees, and it will ensure they receive the support they need for growth and the success of their business.

It is part of a mission to increase the number of women in the industry and also to ensure women who work with Smartline get the support they need, CEO Sam Boer said.

“Learning that women only make up about 30 per cent of the mortgage broking industry was a disappointing stat to hear, and we knew we wanted to make an impact,” Mr Boer said.

“I’m hopeful our campaign will draw attention to the great career opportunities that the mortgage broking industry has on offer to both those new to the industry and those already working in finance. We’re also offering more support to women within our existing network and encouraging them to step up as leaders in our mentoring program.

“Smartline is committed to supporting both women and men in working towards building their successful mortgage broking businesses.”

As part of the campaign, it will host Build Your Own Business events in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney to give women a chance to hear from guest speakers and other brokers.

“Balance is important in any profession, and I feel as though we need a better balance in the mortgage broking industry,” Smartline adviser Deb Smith said.

“Female brokers bring a nurturing and relationship-driven approach to the table, and I hope the new campaign encourages more women to join.”
