While it is not business as usual, the real estate industry has once again proved to be adaptable to trying circumstances as it continues to shine, according to an industry CEO.
The CEO of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ), Antonia Mercorella, noted on a recent episode of Secrets of the Top 100 Agents the importance of agents helping each other follow the rules set out by the government.
While highlighting the importance of the industry continuing, Ms Mercorella believes if agents abuse the laws and “look for loopholes”, government regulations will shut the industry down.
“My message is, let’s make sure we don’t lose that privilege. We really implore the real estate community that we are all following the rules and people are not trying to find loopholes,” Ms Mercorella said.
Despite the turmoil over the past few weeks, Ms Mercorella is proud of the industry, which has created “a new norm” in just a couple of days.
“I have never seen the real estate profession respond and be so nimble in the community. Other members that are more technologically advanced have helped their colleagues,” she said.
“Necessity is the mother of invention, and I have never seen that be so apparent as it is right now. We are being forced to be innovative, we have to be thinking outside the box and be adaptive.”
Not only is the industry surviving during these difficult times, it will come out of it stronger than before, with new technology continuing to support the industry after COVID-19 has passed.
“When we come out of this, we will be so agile, we will be much more advanced,” Ms Mercorella said.
