With social distancing and isolation impacting the most vulnerable members of the community, a local real estate practice has reached out to ensure members know they are not alone during the crisis.

Ray White Manly’s team has decided to ensure the local community knows someone is always on the other end of the phone should they need it, reaching out to over 1,000 members of the local community.

“It’s so important in times like these that we come together as one — and it’s amazing what a simple phone call and a chat can do for someone’s spirits,” said Ray White Manly principal Scott Kelleher.

“We received a list of 1,000 people between the ages of 70 and 80 and we wasted no time in calling up to see if they were okay and if there was anything we could do to help.

Fortunately, many of the older generation here have their family around them, but we had some really great conversations with the people that don’t have that luxury.”

Not only was the Manly sales team able to lend their ear, they also managed to solve a few problems, with sales associate Jack Chadwick leveraging his network to help older residents.

“One lady we spoke to was suffering from a leaking tap she couldn’t fix, so we sent over the plumber we use for our property management, and they fixed it up for her,” he said.

Mr Kelleher continued: “I have to commend Jack. He spent 20–30 minutes on some conversations because he understands how lonely isolation can be for some people — we simply wanted people to know they were absolutely not alone during all of this.”

Mr Kelleher believes a community spirit is being shown as members of the community are asking the realtors how they are faring through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“At a time when you have to stay at home to save lives, it was humbling to be able to make a difference, even if it was just to talk or to fix a leaking tap. We love our community,” Mr Kelleher concluded.
