The founder of the Real Estate Gym is rolling out a new training program, which aims to help agents prepare for life after COVID-19.
Mr Panos’ new Post-COVID Real Estate program kicks off on Monday, 4 May, running for 21 days, with each day addressing an issue agents will find themselves facing off the back of the pandemic.
Speaking to REB ahead of the upcoming launch, Mr Panos said the new program comes as a result of many queries from agents, asking how best to navigate the new environment they find themselves in.
“My Real Estate Gym, which has got thousands of members, has been inundated by people saying, ‘What do you say to a vendor in this situation?’, ‘What do you say to a buyer that’s opportunistic now, who wants to give you a really low offer and they’re trying to take advantage of COVID-19?’, ‘What do you say to a vendor who wants to come on to the market, but they’re paranoid that it’s the wrong time?’, ‘How do I qualify if a buyer is really serious, because we don’t want to take time-wasters over the people’s houses in these current circumstances?’,” Mr Panos said.
“I also started getting all these other questions like, ‘How do you carry out a virtual listing presentation using Zoom?’
“My team was getting up to 50 calls a day from agents saying, ‘We have this problem...’.”
The program puts these queries front of mind, with Mr Panos assembling some of the industry’s best real estate coaches and practitioners to help lead the charge: Tom Ferry, James Tostevin, Mark McLeod, Cathy Baker, Chris Hassall, D’Leanne Lewis, Dane Atherton, Dr Fred Grosse, Gavin Rubinstein, Tanja Neven-Jones, Jason Boon, John McGrath, Josh Tesolin, Kate Smith, Manos and Maria Findikakis, Mat Steinwede, Marty Fox, Megan Jaffe, Phil Harris, Shane Beaumont, Shannon Whitney and Tom Hector.
The program is free for Real Estate Gym members and $97 for non-members.
On what makes this different in comparison to other educational platforms, Mr Panos said: “Most real estate content online is pretty much just content that is thrown together, which is video footage.
“My program is actually structured learning that has outcomes, requires people to allocate 30 minutes per day and to check off that they’ve done it.
“It’s experiential learning and the reason we’ve done 21 days is because as someone who’s been training real estate agents for three decades, I understand the difference between a sugar hit that pumps them up and what permanent change is like, and all the research out there on permanent change is that people need to progressively learn things over a period of at least three weeks to the point where they can actually create change.
“[Agents will walk away with] practical skills addressing May 2020 problems. It’s not, ‘Hey, keep motivated. Stay positive’. That’s really easy stuff to say, but you say that to someone who has had their income taken down by 70 per cent, it ain’t that easy just to say, ‘Stay positive’.”
In conclusion, Mr Panos encouraged agents to upskill themselves during this time, noting that only those who do so will be able to thrive post-COVID-19.
“The rules of the game have changed and so have some of the practices of agents,” said Mr Panos, on the reason behind the upcoming launch.
“Like milk, cheese and bread have got use-by dates, all of a sudden, what agents were doing and saying had expired.
“What if this [program] actually took you to pro level? What if this actually helped you emerge as being better, faster, sharper and smarter than ever before? What if this was the thing that gave you the skill set to win market share?
“If you do nothing, and when I say nothing, it doesn’t mean doing this course, but if you don’t sort yourself out, you may be in a situation where you become one of the thousands that are going to exit real estate, because the pie is going to get smaller — we know that.
“We’re going to have to grow a bigger share of the pie, and what it means is good agents will get bigger and poor agents will unfortunately have to look at getting other jobs and there might not be that many out there.”
