With normal real estate services disrupted across Sydney, ice cream has been on the agenda for one agency in the Hills District.

The sweet initiative, which delivered free ice cream to kids and families across the area in July, was a collaboration among Harcourts Rouse Hill director Shad McMillan, sales executive Greg Mainstone and a vintage ice cream and dessert truck known as Retro Birdie.

It saw many “ice cream hunters” log on to Snack Tracker to locate the 1967 Ford Transit M1 truck that carried the sweet treats across the suburbs.

The project proved to be popular, with Harcourts and its collaborators going on to extend the originally planned one-time event with an extra night.

“We asked everyone who missed out the first time to send us a message and we sent the van straight to their street so that the kids didn’t miss out,” Mr McMillan said.

Simple as it may seem, the offer of free ice cream ultimately proved that a little kindness — and a lot of sugar — can go a long way in helping people through tough times, according to the director.

“We received a wonderful message from a single mother who said she never buys ice creams like this for kids as they’re too expensive for her, so she really appreciated it and her kids were so excited,” Mr McMillan shared.

“We really were just trying to put some smiles on people’s faces during this tough time and to sweeten up life during lockdown. We hope it helped out a little.”

Judging by the ice cream run’s success, Harcourts Rouse Hill has revealed plans to continue their acts of giving, with further family ice-cream promotions and initiatives reportedly already in the works.
