One Melbourne-based office has defied lockdown odds, achieving an impressive sales record of 200-plus sales in its first 12 months of operation.
Director Rohullah Paykari only opened LJ Hooker Dandenong in Melbourne’s south-east in June 2020, but his team has already recorded 205 sales worth $150 million.
Of these sales, 127 transactions — worth approximately $100 million — were achieved by Mr Paykari himself.
Mr Paykari built up 10 years’ worth of experience in real estate as a sales agent before ultimately deciding to make the jump to business ownership in spite of COVID-19.
“I was a bit nervous, but this is something that I wanted to do and I really believed in myself and thought I’m just going to do it,” Mr Paykari said.
“[Because], despite the pandemic, I knew that people still need to buy and sell houses.”
According to the director, to overcome the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic, they simply had to adopt the “business as usual” mindset.
“We just couldn’t stop because of COVID-19. Even though we couldn’t operate as normal, I knew we could still operate, and we just had to keep moving forward,” he added.
In addition to the impressive sales result, Mr Paykari also grew his team from seven to 13 members over the period.
He said one of the highlights since opening the operation was the sale of eight townhouses in Dandenong, which was snapped up within just a month of being launched onto the market.
“There are a lot of developments in our area, but the majority of house-hunters are first-time buyers as well as a few upgraders and downsizers,” the director shared.
“It is really rewarding being able to help people buy their first property.”
LJ Hooker’s head of network performance, Stephen Mutton, has expressed support and admiration for Mr Paykari and the Dandenong team.
Mr Mutton said new offices traditionally achieve between 60 and 80 sales during a normal non-lockdown period, so LJ Hooker Dandenong’s 200-strong sales record was “truly phenomenal, particularly in light of Melbourne’s successive lockdowns”.
“Real estate is in Rohullah’s DNA — he is dedicated, enthusiastic and has really united his team together,” Mr Mutton said.
“Achieving the sales figures they have reached after starting from scratch and opening right at the start of lockdown, is just amazing.”
