Australia’s national Strata Community Association (SCA) has made some key appointments, elevating two former leaders of state and territory strata bodies to the roles of president and vice president.
Chris Duggan, who has served as president of NSW’s Strata Community Association since 2009, takes the top job, while he’ll be supported by Joshua Baldwin, South Australia’s current chapter president, who was named to the role of VP.
Mr Duggan said he was looking forward to serving in a role that would unite industry priorities across jurisdictions.
“There are many issues that go beyond state borders, and our industry can profit from collaboration, knowledge-sharing and leadership as we forge a path forward on issues such a building defects and cladding, strata insurance, sustainability, professional standards, and our path forward out of the COVID pandemic,” Mr Duggan said.
“I’m delighted to leverage the strong platform and state collaboration that currently exists to ensure we develop nationally consistent strata priorities that support consumers in [communities] living in Australia.
Mr Duggan is the group managing director of the Bright & Duggan Property Group and has been the president of SCA (NSW) since 2016, having served as a director since 2009.
During his tenure at SCA (NSW), Mr Duggan oversaw the establishment of the first professional standards scheme for strata managers in Australia. He was also recently appointed as the inaugural chair of the NSW Property Services Expert Panel (PSEP), which represents the real estate industry when engaging with the government and provides guidance on matters impacting agents and consumers.
Incoming vice president Joshua Baldwin is the executive director at Munro Property Group and has served on the national chapter’s board since 2020. He voiced his enthusiasm for pushing forward the board’s work in this new role.
“We currently have a board filled with great experience and passion; there are exciting times ahead for SCA and the industry as a whole,” Mr Baldwin said, noting the importance of the body’s work at a time of great expansion.
“The $1.2 trillion strata sector continues to grow with over $100 million in projects in the pipeline around the country.
“Our members are looking at us to drive innovation and professionalism in the industry, and I believe I am ideally positioned to assist Chris and the board achieve this,” Mr Baldwin said.
In accepting the role, Mr Duggan expressed his energy for the work ahead of him while praising the achievements of his predecessor.
“I can’t thank or commend outgoing president Andrew Chambers highly enough for his hard work and accomplishments over three years in the role and in his 20 years of service to SCA,” Mr Duggan commented.
Mr Chambers said it had been an honour to serve the industry and reflected on his tenure.
“One of the key motivating factors when I started on my SCA journey was to increase the profile and professionalism of the industry; we have achieved that with our ongoing education and accreditation program for both individuals and companies together with the work SCA NSW has done getting the professional standards scheme approved.”
