The pandemic may have forced people to stay at home, but West Australians have made sure no one feels left behind during this magical season.
Showing an overflow of generosity, Western Australians responded to The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Appeal to donate unwrapped gifts or non-perishable food items from 15 November to 13 December for those having a tough time in their community.
The Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) stepped in by offering 43 of its offices as collection points for donations.
Neville Pozzi, REIWA chief executive, has expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support: “Christmas is a wonderful time of year, but it can also be a challenging time for those doing it tough. Thank you to everyone who donated to this year’s appeal, your generosity will go a long way towards bringing some festive cheer to those experiencing hardship in our community.”
Mr Pozzi shared his delight in seeing REIWA offices open their doors and reconnect with the community as donation collection points after temporarily closing physical offices and moving online due to COVID-19.
“REIWA and its agents have been supporting the Salvos’ Christmas Appeal since 2015 and I am pleased to say 2021 was our best turnout ever, with more REIWA agencies volunteering as collection points than ever before,” he said.
The Salvation Army has joined with REIWA through Community REInvest, a philanthropic program that helps real estate brokers identify opportunities, mobilise resources, and benefit Western Australia residents, particularly those who are homeless.
