The record-breaking auction activity that dominated the last two months of 2021 is set to continue.
In the auction market preview for the week ending 30 January 2022, CoreLogic research analyst Kaytlin Ezzy has revealed that while it’s traditionally the quietest part of the year, “this week is set to overtake the same week last year as the busiest January auction week since CoreLogic records commenced in 2008”.
A total of 1,179 homes are set to go to auction this weekend – more than double the 436 auctions held last week.
Ms Ezzy also flagged that this week’s figure is 33.4 per cent higher than the same week last year – which had previously held the record for the busiest January week on record.
Melbourne leads the pack, with 396 homes set to go under the hammer. It’s almost three times the 140 auctions that took place over the previous week – but comparable to the 390 homes that were up for grabs over the same period in 2021.
Sydney isn’t too far behind, boasting 339 homes available to potential purchasers. It’s a big boost from one week earlier when just 73 auctions took place.
Adelaide is starting the year strong, playing host to 196 auctions, while Brisbane is gearing up for 154 auctions across the city.
Down in the national capital, Canberrans have their pick of 79 auctions over the seven-day period.
Perth is set to see 14 auctions over the last full week of January, while just one home in Tasmania is up for grabs via auction.
