You’ve come back to work for 2022. You’ve had a well-deserved break. You’ve written down your goals with the intention of having a highly productive year. Everything is in place. But still, you can’t seem to shake that feeling of being “stuck”.
Getting back into the groove is proving a challenge. You’ve got one foot in work mode, the other is still in holiday mode.
Don’t beat yourself up; lots of agents feel the exact same way. But it’s all about how you now handle the situation.
So, here are some tips to help you recharge, refocus and recalibrate if you’re feeling “stuck”.
1. Take time out
It may sound counterintuitive, but taking two days out to recalibrate is the perfect antidote to that feeling of not knowing quite where to direct your attention next.
Be selfish and pause for a couple of days, totally on your own. Whether it’s in the country or by the coast, get back into nature and review your goals, plans, and action lists, so you can refocus on what needs to be done.
2. Turn your attention to team building
Chances are there are other members of your team feeling a little directionless too.
This might be an ideal opportunity to regroup, get crystal clear on the goals ahead and have everyone regain that all-important momentum.
Your team can also be a highly motivating factor for you as the leader. After all, often, they help hold you accountable for the plans you have in place for the year ahead.
Whether it’s paintball, a bowling night, or high ropes adventure, find an opportunity to get everyone together and fired up for 2022.
3. Tap into mentors or close colleagues
A support network of mentors and like-minded colleagues is essential throughout your real estate career.
If you’re feeling lacklustre and “stuck”, now is the time to tap into that network and seek out those trusted peers for a motivational chat.
Also, look to those around you who have hit the ground running. Observe what they are doing, learn from them and follow their lead.
Once you have drawn on your network and found those to emulate, it’s all about getting busy in the knowledge you don’t wait for things to happen; you make them happen.
4. Get prospecting!
Sometimes the best way to regain your momentum is to simply dive straight into the things you know you need to do. So go on, get prospecting!
If that idea feels a bit hard or too “same old, same old”, try approaching it in the following ways:
Study your database – Instead of just looking at your action lists, get your contacts “out” of your database, so you can look at things from a different perspective.
Print off your entire database and review every potential client. Send high-value clients or those who are most likely to move in the coming months a hand-written, personalised “just a note to say…” card, then mail it.
Get on the phone – The phone call is your best “get moving” strategy. If you have highlighted high-value clients, knuckle down and start making the calls.
Mix it up with SMS – Using the same list, send personalised text messages with links back to blogs or market reports. It’s about giving, not asking, so ensure these links offer value to your potential clients.
The great thing about diving into your database is that it helps reaffirm your previous success. It allows you to speak with people who you have successfully connected with in the past, and in many cases, they will have used your expertise to achieve a great result.
There are few things that are more motivational than success and proven results, so reach out to your database and regain that energy.
It’s natural to occasionally come back to work feeling like you lack direction or motivation. But follow those simple steps above and you’ll be back at the top of your game, with clarity, impetus and enthusiasm, in no time.
