Richard Matthews Real Estate recorded a 100 per cent clearance rate across one weekend of scheduled auctions and a big milestone for total sales.

The Strathfield-headquartered agency that currently operates primarily in Sydney’s inner west and south-west transacted almost $30 million worth of property that was slated for auction on 5 and 6 March, selling a number of those just before they hit the block.

The sales ranged in value from $510,000 through to $5,850,000 and included a three-bedroom townhome in Greenacre that went for $860,000 – a record for the complex – and a four-bedroom, three-bathroom freestanding Strathfield house that netted a street record of $4,800,000.

Off the back of this recent success, the brand is now unveiling its plans to expand city-wide and is embarking on what company director and auctioneer Richard Baini is calling “the biggest recruitment drive of the century”.

The group has put out a call for interested parties to join their venture and are following the recipe that led to a strong team in previous hiring initiatives by focusing on talent outside of the industry.

“We choose values and character over experience,” Mr Baini explained.

It’s a tactic that he, alongside co-founder Matthew Everingham, discussed during REB’s REInnovate conference on 3 March.

Mr Baini explained why they feel they obtain high results when moulding raw talent from industries like sales and education, among others.

“Everyone knows if you want to teach someone to play golf, it is a lot easier to train someone who has never played before and we put this in place and have seen it to be true within our team,” he said.
