Following Labor’s election win in South Australia over the weekend, the state’s real estate institute has offered up a warm welcome to the incoming government.
Real Estate Institute of South Australia (REISA) chief executive Barry Money has commented: “We look forward to working closely with the new state premier, Peter Malinauskas, to help alleviate some of the key housing issues currently facing our state.”
Highlighting some of those causes for concern, he outlined: “The barriers to entry for first homebuyers should be reviewed, addressing the supply of rental properties across the diverse array of segments including government, public and private real estate properties are some of the key challenges we are facing.”
He also acknowledged how “significant growth” in the real estate sector had meant that “taxation revenue has significantly increased in the past 12-18 months providing state government with a windfall revenue”.
Highlighting the role REISA plays in communicating with the state government on key real estate industry concerns, the institute said it invites the new state government “to the table”.
The REISA said: “We wish for a smooth transition to the new government and look forward to working with the new state government over the next four years.”
The institute reaffirmed that “REISA Ltd. prides itself on its neutrality and bipartisan and agnostic approach”.
