An exclusive club for an agency’s top performers is using luxury family holidays and the offer of company shares to increase workplace motivation.
In the two years since Upside Realty launched its Summit Club, the agency said it had seen an impressive level of drive from its professionals looking to get a slice of the exclusive pie.
But it’s not an easy circle in which to gain entrance. Upside includes only its top five performing agents (based on sales volume), its manager of the year and its headquarters “MVP” in the elite grouping every year.
This year, their rewards included an all-expenses-paid trip to Noosa with their families in tow.
Company equity is also a perk and one that’s not frequently offered as a prize for top performers in real estate agencies.
“What’s unique about our top-performers club is that for every year an Upside agent earns a place in the Summit Club, they receive a piece of share equity in the business. Their hard work is rewarded by becoming a shareholder,” Upside Realty director of sales James Kirkland explained.
Already, Mr Kirkland said that the program has had a noticeable effect on performance.
“Since we launched the Summit Club at the start of 2020, it has sparked a great sense of healthy competition amongst all our agents – not just the top performers. We send out weekly leaderboards to show who’s currently in the top five and where everyone else sits in comparison, and it’s been very rewarding to see team members spurring each other on, while also using this incentive to motivate themselves,” he said.
“Towards the end of the year, especially, as it gets down to the wire as to who will make the ‘Summit Club’, you can see this particularly driving agents’ activity – ramping up to finish the year,” he said.
Mr Kirkland also noted that beyond the awardees themselves, there were others who were grateful for the reward.
“With the annual winner’s trip especially, we think this kind of motivation is important because our Summit Club winners can bring their partners or families along – so really it’s a thanks to them too, for their continued support behind the scenes. We know that top performing real estate agents work exceptionally hard and it’s the partners and families that often feel this most,” he said.
And he noted that this method of showing their thanks for the company’s highest achievers had other benefits.
“Moreover, going away for a week with our agents’ families is such a great way to get to know them all on a more personal level, and enhance the overall sense of community within our sales team, which is very important to Upside and our culture,” he said.
