Anzac day weekend 2022 is not set to best the figures from the year before, as the recent Easter long weekend did this time around.
According to CoreLogic’s auction preview for the week ending 24 April, 1,853 homes are ready to hit the block, down from 2,087 last year.
It may be an uptick from last week’s 937 homes taken to auction, but that period, punctuated by Easter holidays, broke a record as the busiest Easter in the property data provider’s books.
This week, Melbourne is the frontrunner for most sales at auction, with 685 set to take place, up from 196 over the previous week. This time last year, the Victorian capital played host to 957 auctions.
Sydney, too, is slightly down from last year, with 757 properties under the hammer, down from 794. Last weekend Sydney was the centre of focus, with 483 properties being auctioned in the harbour city – more than half of the capitals’ total homes up for grabs.
Adelaide follows Sydney and Melbourne this period with 165 homes under the hammer, while Brisbane’s not far behind, offering 153. Canberra will host 80 auctions, Perth 12, and Tasmania just one.
With volumes this low, it’s likely that the clearance rate will continue to fall, as it has for seven consecutive weeks. Last week, it slipped below 60 per cent for the first time since the week of 23 January, coming in at 58.9 per cent.
