The competition saw a record seven finalists compete for the top honour during the competition’s final.
The Novice Auctioneers Competition (NAC), which is put on by the Real Estate Institute of NSW (REINSW), allows the top up-and-coming auctioneers to try their hand at the skill.
This year’s winner, Ollie Gearing from Advantage Property Group in Newcastle, has only been in the profession for a year and developed his passion for auctioneering during weekly Saturday travels to Sydney as a sales associate.
“I wasn’t really expecting to win so I was shocked to be fair,” Mr Gearing said. “The Newcastle NAC heat was my first ever auction but I didn’t win. So, I thought I’d go down to Wollongong and give it another crack and won. I was happy it was over, but as soon as I got off stage, I wanted to get up and do it again – I was hooked!”
For the third year running, the 2022 edition of the NAC saw the finalists given an actual property to auction off – a five-bedroom rural property in Canoelands, in the Hornsby local government area, which sold for $1,076,500.
Throughout the heats of the tournament, each competitor is tasked with auctioning off a luxury item of their choice in the heats, with funds raised throughout the course of the competition going directly to the REINSW’s 2022 charity partner, Assistance Dogs Australia.
The funds raised at this year’s NAC – which amounted to more than $14,200 – is well over half of the $25,000 the REINSW is committed to raising for the charity, which will, in turn, help Australians living with disabilities achieve their life goals.
