To help entry-level agents find their stride in the real estate industry, the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) announced that it had launched a purpose-built first-year membership called Graduate Membership.

REIQ chief executive Antonia Mercorella stated that the new membership category would replace the institute’s Student Membership starting this July, as the state’s peak body takes steps to ensure that newcomers to the profession will receive support at a time it is needed most.

“We’ve created an entry-level membership that recognises the first year after course completion is a critical period of time when graduates can get the most value from their REIQ membership,” Ms Mercorella said.

She acknowledged that graduates who are fresh out of studying are “hungry job hunters and eager to set themselves apart from other candidates”.

“[A] membership with the state’s peak body can give them that competitive edge,” she assured.

Ms Mercorella explained that the membership would help new entrants get started on the right foot in the real estate industry by equipping them with best practices and refining their skills for their professional journey ahead.

She also enumerated the benefits that come with the membership. “Employers recognise that a candidate with an REIQ membership is backed with industry-leading support and education, helping to lift some of this burden from their own internal resources.

“Once they’re up and running on-the-job, fresh graduates can benefit greatly from the unlimited advisory support, timely industry updates, continuing professional development courses, and regular networking exposure that an REIQ Graduate Membership offers,” she stated.

Agents who have completed a Registration, Full Licence, Auctioneering, Resident Letting Agent of Certificate 4 course within two years from obtaining their Statement of Attainment are eligible to sign up for the REIQ Graduate Membership.

Additionally, students who complete their course with the REIQ can avail of a free one-year-term Graduate Membership.

Ms Mercorella underlined that the membership is not exclusive to those who are right out of the blocks of studying. While the new membership category commenced this month, she explained the membership is open to past students with a Statement of Attainment in one of the eligible courses dated from 27 April 2021 onwards.

“Along with future graduates, we’re also offering recent graduates the opportunity to take advantage of this membership offer, and we encourage them to check their eligibility and register,” she said.

Graduates from other training providers can also become members with an introductory offer of $99, according to Ms Mercorella.

“We want to engage and empower all agents in the foundational year of their career, and embed best practice principles from the get-go,” she said.
