In a bid to provide support for seriously ill and premature babies across Queensland, a major real estate group and an award-winning auctioneer have been selected to drive and manage the sale of the 2022 “House for Life”.

Plantation Homes and Mater Foundation have revealed Coronis Real Estate Agency will be driving the sale of this year’s House for Life — a Helensvale four-bedroom, two-bathroom home.

Justin Nickerson, the director of Apollo Auctions, will be on auctioneering duties for the 15 October event, where all proceeds will go towards Mater Little Miracles.

It’s the ninth home that has been built and auctioned off by Plantation Homes for the cause — with the company having managed to raise more than $5 million to date since 2008 through the initiative.

Plantation Homes general manager Alex Raleigh said they are “thrilled that Coronis Real Estate and Justin Nickerson have jumped on board in helping drive interest for House for Life”.

“I am confident that Coronis will build fantastic momentum and interest in the lead up, and on the auction day as it such a great community event. Then it is over to the very talented Justin, who will weave his auctioneering magic to undoubtedly get a fantastic result for Mater,” Mr Raleigh said.

Coronis Real Estate chief executive Andrew Coronis has reflected on the group’s “long and rewarding” relationship with Mater Foundation, expressing the belief that this “has been beneficial for our clients and our whole team at Coronis”.

“Giving is part of our DNA and we strongly endorse the work Mater Foundation does to provide world class medical care to our community,” Mr Coronis said.

He said that they “jumped” at the opportunity with House for Life: “We can give our services to a wonderful cause ... and it will be a lot of fun and good for our soul — both things we value.”

Mr Nickerson has also expressed his excitement for the event, revealing that while it is a fantastic cause, “it’s also inspiring to see the amount of people who have donated their expertise to make it all happen, and I’m thrilled to play a small part in that”.

“I love that as an auctioneer, it has given me the opportunity to play a role in momentous occasions in people’s lives. The thrill of seeing people secure their dream home has never changed right from the first auction,” Mr Nickerson said.

He quipped: “We are hoping that auction day brings bright sunshine, a big crowd and an amazing sold result for the House for Life!”

And with more than 2,000 seriously ill and premature babies taken care of each year at Mater Mothers’ Hospital’s neonatal critical care unit, Mater Foundation executive director Andrew Thomas said: “The proceeds of this house will make a real difference to our resources and research so that we can continue supporting families and their babies who require specialised care at Mater.”
