After eight years at the helm, the Property Council of Australia (PCA) chief executive has indicated he will be resigning from the top job.
According to a statement from the PCA, Ken Morrison will leave the organisation in December as he pursues other career opportunities.
Having taken on the CEO duties back in 2014, Mr Morrison had also previously served as chief operating officer and NSW executive director.
Paying tribute to the CEO’s service to the industry — and to Australian public policy — national president of the Property Council, David Harrison, said: “Ken has been a tremendous leader of the Property Council over a long period.
“He has helped the industry see itself differently, led our advocacy efforts across a host of issues and navigated the organisation through the pandemic.
“Ken is a leading policy thinker in cities, planning, sustainability and tax — one who knows how to influence governments to get outcomes.
“In particular, the Property Council’s leadership through the depths of the pandemic was outstanding and highly appreciated by members.”
Mr Harrison imparted that the outgoing CEO “leaves the Property Council in a very strong position: a highly influential organisation, record membership support and a clear strategy in place”.
His legacy also includes “the industry’s substantial focus on gender and other forms of diversity”, Mr Harrison flagged, adding that “while there is still much work to do, this has begun a deep transformation which is having a real impact”.
According to Mr Morrison, “it has been a special privilege to lead this organisation”, but the time is right to pursue fresh challenges.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work of the Property Council and the powerful and positive impact we have had on the industry and the community.
“It has been immensely rewarding to make a contribution to the policies which help shape our cities and drive our economy. I hope to continue to be able to play a role in our national life in the future,” he reflected.
“My heartfelt thanks to our board, executive and staff team present and past, as well as the great many members who I have learnt so much from over the years.”
The PCA has revealed that a search for Mr Morrison’s successor has now commenced, with Mr Harrison wishing Mr Morrison well for the future.
