The institute has revealed who will take on the role vacated by former president Damian Collins.

Joe White will step into the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) president role, drawing on his experience as deputy president for the past two years.

REIWA chief executive Cath Hart said Mr White “brings a wealth of knowledge to REIWA”.

She illustrated the “gamut of skills under his belt, including 31 years in the real estate industry and experience as a member on numerous boards”.

“His knowledge of regional Western Australia, having lived and worked in Dunsborough for three decades, as well as his commitment to the housing supply and affordability framework, will be a great asset to the institute,” Ms Hart said.

Mr White himself said he is “delighted to have been appointed REIWA president”.

Thanking the council “for their faith” in his ability to represent the institute, Mr White acknowledged that he comes into the role “in a challenging housing environment and [is] committed to advocating on behalf of [the institute’s] members and the WA public, building on REIWA’s 100-year legacy”.

He also took the time to acknowledge the work done by his predecessor Damian Collins, who spent four years at the helm of the organisation.

“I would like to thank Damian Collins for his hard work and dedication to the institute during his presidency. His knowledge and understanding of real estate are outstanding, and I am very grateful he will remain on council,” he said.

The meeting of the REIWA council to elect the new president also saw Cr Suzanne Brown appointed to the position of deputy president.

New office bearers were also elected at the meeting: Rob Mandanici is now the chair of the finance and risk management committee, while Peta McKenzie is the council nominee to the finance and risk management committee.

According to the REIWA, the change in president will also initiate a change to the official institute spokesperson. CEO Cath Hart will now be responsible for all media comments and interviews.

Mr White will remain the key spokesperson for regional property-related inquiries.
