A Queensland-based group has divulged the unique way it aims to improve the lives of its people.

In conversation with REB, Place Estate Agents chief executive Damian Hackett shared that the business draws on the role of a “dream manager” in the organisation.

This role, filled by Place mentor Mike Gordon, aims to ensure the business is not just focused on financials — but on “all the different parts of people’s lives”, according to Mr Hackett.

The role of the “dream manager” is to sit down with employees — and chart out what’s important to them: “From their family, from their legacy, from adventure and fun.”

Finding people’s “happy place” is important to Mr Hackett, who sees it as cornerstone to the Place Estate Agents business’ success that there is a focus on “caring holistically [about] the person rather than just seeing them as an opportunity to create revenue”.

While he acknowledges it might seem cliché, in essence, it is about allowing team members to “be the best possible versions of themselves”.

Place’s “dream manager”, Mr Gordon, has approximately five decades of experience under his belt — and has spent around 25 years working with Mr Hackett on and off, which means the chief executive is well placed to profess that “Mike’s a wise guy”.

Drawing on his extensive life experience, the Place CEO detailed how Mr Gordon would sit with team members who choose to take up the opportunity “and talks to them about personally their life, their relationships with their family and so forth. They’ll set goals basically in four to five parts of their life, and he’ll meet with them six months later — or whatever the time period — to try and keep them accountable.”

It’s not the only way that Place aims to support his people. The business also pays for staff members to have sessions with external financial advisers, who “sit with them and give them advice on how to create wealth and how to obviously manage their finances”, Mr Hackett revealed.

And like many other organisations, the CEO also pointed out that there are plans in place whereby anyone under pressure or stress is able to access psychological support through the business.

Mr Hackett recently spoke on what goes into making a number one business. Check out the article here.
