A real estate brand has been bestowed with its own namesake holiday to commemorate 50 years of being in operation.

Denver mayor Michael Hancock declared 30 January as “RE/MAX, LLC 50th Anniversary Day” to mark the firm’s establishment in the city in 1973 by Dave and Gail Liniger, becoming what the group believes to be the first holiday ever declared after a real estate brand.

RE/MAX president and chief executive Nick Bailey said that Founders Day is a celebration of the brand that embodies the Linigers’ “amazing” vision and the “incredible brand” they have built.

“This year is particularly special, as we celebrate five decades of entrepreneurs who are deeply passionate about serving their communities. We’re a global company, but Denver will always hold a special place in our heart as the city where real estate history changed forever in 1973.”

Although the brand’s Founders Day was only named a local holiday in Denver, the RE/MAX network is celebrating worldwide.

While the group has grown into a global network with over 140,000 sales associates in nearly 9,000 independently owned offices across 110 countries and territories, including Australia, it has notably maintained its main headquarters in the city.

The official proclamation stated that the holiday was declared in recognition of RE/MAX’s commitment to serving not just the local Denver community, but other areas where the brand operates.

“[Mr and Mrs] Gail Liniger have built Denver values into the RE/MAX culture and have remained active, respected pillars of the Denver community,” it stated.

In addition to their success in the real estate industry, the proclamation highlighted that RE/MAX agents have followed Mr and Mrs Liniger’s lead by making a positive impact on their communities through sponsoring events, supporting schools, funding scholarships, organising food drives and more.
