A national real estate brand’s charitable arm is answering the call to support aid efforts for victims of the recent natural disaster in Turkey and Syria.

Raine & Horne Foundation pledged a $20,000 donation to Care Australia to help the casualties of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake, which resulted in over 30,000 people in both countries losing their lives and left tens of thousands injured.

A volunteer organisation working in the affected zones, the White Helmets, recently stated that the total number of casualties was expected to rise much higher in the coming days as search and rescue operations continue.

Concerningly, several disaster relief organisations have reported that on-the-ground conditions have worsened since the quake, which occurred on 6 February.

In Turkey, thousands of buildings are in ruins, including schools and health centres. At the same time, essential infrastructure, such as sanitation and water supplies are also severely damaged. For those in Syria, the issues are compounded by 12 years of civil war.

With winter conditions worsening, many survivors are also struggling to find shelter. According to the Turkish government, 380,000 people have sought refuge in government shelters or hotels.

In response to the earthquake tragedy, CARE Australia is working with partners and local municipalities to provide aid to affected families in Turkey.

The organisation has been active in the country since 1959 and is now delivering urgently needed supplies such as tents, mattresses, blankets, food, drinking water, baby items, and warm clothing to as many families as possible.

The Raine & Horne Foundation’s financial support will reportedly assist CARE Australia in providing essential aid such as food, drinking water, and warm clothing to those in need.

Angus Raine, executive chairman of Raine & Horne, expressed his solidarity with those affected by the disaster.

“This is a distressing event, and our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, including Turkish people living in Australia.

“Our thoughts are also with the injured, as well as people of Turkish heritage in Australia waiting anxiously for news.”

According to Mr Raine, the financial support provided by the foundation will help “funnel urgent aid to people struggling to survive.”

“We are part of a global community, and this support shows that we are thinking of the people in Turkey who are facing enormous challenges to their survival,” he said.
