The national real estate lobbying group has locked new executives in its ACT division team, welcoming Shane Martin and Phil O’Brien into the fold.
On 27 June, Mr Martin will step into the role of ACT and Capital Region executive director.
Notably, the new executive has held the role of national government relations manager with the Property Council, based in Canberra, since 2022.
Chief executive Mike Zorbas said the appointment comes following an extensive recruitment process, noting that Mr Martin has excelled in his prior role in the organisation.
“Shane’s strategic capacity, integrity, and strong connections will serve our terrific ACT Division well.
I am keen for him to continue his great work for our industry as ACT and Capital Region executive director,” Mr Zorbas said.
Prior to being appointed in the Property Council, Mr Martin has also notably worked in various government relations and consulting roles and held several positions in the South Australian government.
Mr Martin said it was “a privilege” to be working with the Division Council and representing an industry that “creates great communities, supports so many jobs, and drives economic growth in our region”.
“From boosting housing supply to a fit-for-purpose planning system and improvements in investment settings, I look forward to working with the ACT government, the Legislative Assembly, and elected representatives in surrounding regions to help our industry improve the liveability of the ACT and region,” he said.
The Property Council also announced Amalgamated Property Group general manager Mr O’Brien will take up the role of ACT division president.
Mr O’Brien takes the reins from Arabella Rohde, who the Property Council lauded for her “outstanding service” over the previous two terms and her “ongoing support of the work of the division”.
As he steps into the new role, Mr O’Brien said the next 12 months will be critical in addressing housing supply and affordability.
“Improving planning and affordability are essential if the ACT and capital region are to thrive,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Shane will be a strong voice for our industry, championing good public policy and helping our members shape a better city and surrounding communities,” he added.
