One of Australia’s largest real estate brands has contributed funds to a marine safety charity.
The Harcourts Foundation has given a grant of over $4,000 to Marine Rescue Ulladulla, an NSW volunteer-based organisation that provides emergency help, marine radio communications and boating safety education.
This is the first time the Harcourts Foundation has focused any funding on marine life-saving efforts, though it has a history of contributing to helping provide flood and bushfire relief emergency equipment.
“The advantage of acquiring this emergency equipment benefits not only the Ulladulla community, but the whole of New South Wales,” said Keith Greenwood, grants officer at Marine Rescue Ulladulla.
“Marine Rescue Ulladulla can be tasked anywhere in NSW and indeed Australia should the need require it,” Mr Greenwood explained.
He further added: “This equipment will make the tasking of the job much more safe and secure knowing that we have reliable power supplies available in remote areas when there is no power.”
Harcourts NSW CEO Katrina Tarrant, who was present when the grant was handed out, said that “witnessing the unwavering dedication of these selfless volunteers, who tirelessly work to save lives, filled me with immense pride”.
“It was a privilege to contribute to their noble cause,” she said. “Sharing this moment with Sharon and Alan Wealleans, the heart and soul of Harcourts Ulladulla, and ardent supporters of their local community, made the occasion all the more special.”
Mr Greenwood pointed out the importance of receiving support from companies like Harcourts, saying: “We are a volunteer organisation with our prime focus being search and rescue, and we can only do this with support like this.”
The organisation offers 24/7 assistance and covers the waterways between Jervis Bay and Batemans Bay. They currently have over 3,000 volunteers in 45 rescue units.
“Marine Rescue Ulladulla is proud to partner with the Harcourts Foundation and it’s local agency, to allow us to meet our ‘Saving Lives On Water’ commitment,” Mr Greenwood said.
The Harcourts Foundation reported that it has contributed more than $8 million to over 1,200 charities and community groups in the last 15 years.
Most recently in November 2023, they donated $90,000 to Beyond Blue.
For every house that was sold, $100 was donated to the mental health charity.
Back in June last year, the Harcourts Foundation continued its commitment to marine safety by donating $3,000 to the Volunteer Marine Rescue Kingsborough in Tasmania.
