An independent Adelaide agency has started a sustainability initiative whose effects will “ripple through generations”.
Turner Real Estate, a family-owned South Australian real estate agency, has been selling and managing properties since the 1990s.
Now, Turner Real Estate is looking towards the future.
The agency recently set up the Turner Impact Fund to streamline and formalise their community contributions and “embed the philosophy of giving back in our culture”.
The company has partnered up with local non-profit Trees For Life, which aims to regenerate the South Australian landscape through planting native trees.
“Our trees are part of the Trees For Habitat program, where trees are raised at a site in the Riverland to revegetate a safe flight path for the regent parrot,” explained managing director Lachlan Turner.
For every property sold, Turner Real Estate is planting a tree to create a home for the endangered native parrot.
In addition, every $20 that the Turner Impact Fund raises will fund the planting of five trees, which offsets one tonne of carbon emissions. Money is raised through fundraisers, donations for commissions and voluntary salary contributions, which the company matches.
Mr Turner said: “This initiative goes beyond the act of planting trees; it’s a symbol of our collective responsibility to the environment and a testament to the power of collaboration.”
“Together, we aim to create a legacy of environmental consciousness,” he said.
Sustainability is nothing new for the Adelaide-based agency that has partnered with CitySwitch “since its inception” to measure and reduce their carbon footprint.
Net zero can sometimes feel like an overwhelming goal for independent businesses, but Mr Turner stressed that sustainability is the responsibility of all companies, both large and small.
“Being responsible corporate citizens is important, and we find that staff and our clients really want to support this actively,” he said.
“Making a difference for our future generations is important and every small part in the puzzle helps.”
In addition to environmental initiatives, the Turner Impact Fund also helps out local community members.
“As a real estate company, we assist people with one of life’s essential needs – shelter, or a place to call home,” explains the fund’s mission statement.
The fund contributes to the Hutt St Centre, a local services centre for people experiencing homelessness. It also help out Dress for Success, a clothing hire organisation that helps women access professional clothing for job interviews.
