As a young assistant, Cara De Buelle was driven by a “hunger to learn”. Now she is sharing her learnings with a new generation of agents.

When De Buelle launched her real estate career at the age of 20, she knew nothing about the property sector.

It took the assistance of generous mentors for De Buelle to reach success.

“I started as a very green 20-year-old doing a sales assistant role in my local Professionals office knowing nothing about the industry, but I had a hunger to learn,” she recalled.

“I received amazing support from so many role models, and I know if they hadn’t invested their time and energy into me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

De Buelle’s ambition never left, and in her mid-20s she started to dream of becoming a business owner herself.

Eventually, she became a co-owner of Professionals Stirling Clark alongside her colleague Glen Newland. At the time, De Buelle was the youngest business owner in the network, having not yet turned 30.

Seven years on, De Buelle still owns Professionals Stirling Clark, a 40-year-old agency that sits in a quiet, leafy pocket of south-east Perth.

“The younger generation tend to gravitate towards me and I’m happy to mentor anyone seeking guidance. It’s a privilege to be in this position to pay it forward,” she said.

For those who hope to follow in her footsteps, the director has one piece of advice: be prepared to make sacrifices.

“If you really want it badly enough, you will work harder than everyone else. There can be no reward without sacrifice,” she said.

As new milestones are gradually achieved and systems begin to settle into place, the need to knuckle down will start to lift.

“Now in my mid-30s with the right people supporting me at work and at home, I can still have a very successful career, but I do it a little differently. I have the right life balance now.”

“That said, I’m not good at sitting still and I’m always looking to move forward,” she acknowledged.

“I know I’ve been truly blessed in what I’ve been able to achieve.”
