Amid an industry-wide reckoning, the Strata Community Association (SCA) has named a new president to guide operations across Australia and New Zealand.
Joshua Baldwin will become the organisation’s youngest president at 33, bringing 13 years of experience in the strata industry to the leadership role.
Having joined the SCA South Australia/Northern Territory board in 2013, Baldwin has a longstanding relationship with the organisation, and ultimately served as the president of that chapter for six years.
Now, with the organisation reckoning with a damning report on inflated commissions being reaped by strata managers, Baldwin will have to lead the charge on the organisation’s “six-step plan to ensure confidence” in the sector.
Looking at the task ahead, Baldwin commented that he was “incredibly excited to commence the role at a pivotal time for our organisation and the industry”.
The new president intends to hit the ground running on new endeavours to boost the organisation’s profile and standards.
“I like to think of myself as someone who is innovative and collaborative, and I never shy away from a challenge. I have a lot of ideas and a great team of volunteers and staff around me to start implementing them.”
“Increasing SCA’s brand identity, delivering consistent standards of education, fostering a good working environment for our staff and volunteers, and building our ethical standards will be my priorities, and I’m rolling up my sleeves and setting to work straight away,” he said.
SCA CEO Alisha Fisher said Baldwin was well-placed to step into the role, describing him as “committed, he’s bright and he cares about the industry”.
“I’m really looking forward to continuing to carry out the board and the organisation’s shared vision with him at the helm,” she said.
Both Fisher and Baldwin thanked outgoing president Chris Duggan for his contribution to SCA.
“Chris has been such an invaluable SCA president and his contribution to the strata industry really cannot be understated. From his leadership on strata insurance affordability, availability and transparency, to increasing professional standards across the country and driving the creation of the fledgling SCA RTO, he has been a clear and unifying voice for the strata industry,” said Baldwin.
