Kerri-Ann Smee is the newest non-member to join the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ)’s directorial board.
Former director Eddie Chung has retired from his position on the REIQ board, handing the title over to tax adviser Kerri-Ann Smee.
Both Chung and Smee have a background in accountancy services, having worked at advisory firm BDO since the late 1990s.
REIQ board chairman Peter Brewer explained that Chung “will be sorely missed by the board, but his retirement is undoubtedly well-deserved, and we wish him well”.
“During his long tenure, Eddie played a vital role in ensuring the REIQ remained a profitable business and would continue to thrive through sustainable and varied revenue streams,” said Brewer.
“We are deeply grateful to Eddie for his invaluable guidance and financial expertise, which proved pivotal during critical junctures in the REIQ’s history. Eddie has helped ensure a strong financial foundation for the REIQ’s future and has left an indelible mark on our organisation and its members,” the chairman added.
Brewer expressed positive hopes for Smee’s upcoming tenure, and welcomed her warmly into her new role.
“Kerri-Ann has stepped into this role seamlessly and I’m confident she will uphold Eddie’s legacy while making her own mark,” said Brewer.
“Her extensive experience and deep understanding of taxation and business advisory in the real estate and construction industry is greatly beneficial and will contribute to the continued success and growth of the REIQ,” the chairman concluded.
Smee’s appointment follows a busy 12 months for the REIQ, with December 2023 seeing the institute appoint 16 regional zone chairs to represent their local communities.
Meanwhile, May 2023 saw Jeff Batten come on board as a non-member director with the Queensland peak body.
