A local art exhibition organised by a Northern Beaches agency has raised vital funds for a marine mammal rescue.

Amy and Matthew Young, co-principals of Laing+Simmons Young Property in Avalon Beach, have long been supporters of local community art through their nonprofit creative space, The Studio.

Past exhibitions held at The Studio have previously raised money for ocean conservation and children in need.

Recently, an exhibition at the centre by local artist Jo Bell, who creates mixed-medium black-and-white ink art inspired by marine life, raised $1,600 for the Organisation for the Research and Rescue of Cetaceans in Australia (ORRCA).

The organisation aids in the rescue and conservation of whales, dolphins, seals and dugongs in Australian waters.

Enchanted by the Sea is one of our most successful exhibitions and it’s a privilege to showcase the inspiring creations of Jo Bell at The Studio in support of the ORRCA volunteers who do such important work,” said Young.

The exhibition even caught the attention of member for Pittwater Rory Amon, who visited The Studio to hand over the cheque.

Writing to Bell, Amon stated: “I recently had the opportunity to acknowledge the work of individuals and organisations who have made a substantial contribution to our Pittwater community in the New South Wales Parliament. It was an honour to pay tribute to your work in the Enchanted by the Sea exhibition.”

Speaking at the Legislative Assembly, Amon expressed thanks to Amy and Matthew Young “for [their] support of local art”.

His acknowledgment was welcomed by Amy Young, who shared: “We’re proud to have been acknowledged by our local member in the NSW Parliament.”

“We thank all the artists who have exhibited their work, as well as the inspirational efforts of all the local organisations who give back to our beautiful Northern Beaches community,” said Young.
