Cities all across Australia will host consultation sessions to ensure that property industry training is fit for purpose.
BuildSkills Australia – which was established by the federal government to find solutions to workforce challenges facing the construction, property and water industries – is embarking on a national tour to discover how property professionals regard the current training options.
The program fits into the Commonwealth government’s five-year, $12.6 billion investment into vocational education and training (VET) to ensure that the skills gained through these programs are both relevant and transferable.
BuildSkills Australia has already carried out a stocktake of training products in the property services industry, “with a view to simplifying and rationalising qualifications where possible”, according to the body’s chief executive officer, Brett Schimming.
Now, Schimming said it is essential that BuildSkills also hears from the community to “validate and refine the initial findings”.
The program will come to all of Australia’s capitals throughout the course of August and September, with a view to discussing professionals’ experiences with CPP property services training.
This includes accreditations such as the Certificates III and IV in real estate practice, Diploma of Property (Agency Management), and Certificate IV in strata community management among others.
“The reform proposes a revived qualification system that moves away from a ‘one size fits all’ approach, towards a system that allows qualifications to be based on their purposes, particularly responding to changing workplaces and industries,” Schimming said.
“This approach preserves the qualifications that are working well and enables new models that provide flexibility to improve outcomes for learners and industry,” he added.
Feedback through the consultation sessions will be “critical to progressing qualification reform and ensuring the VET qualification system is responsive and agile to address skills shortages facing our economy,” according to Schimming.
The schedule for the proposed property services industry consultation workshops is as follows:
27 Aug – Canberra
28 Aug – Melbourne
29 Aug – Perth
3 Sept – Hobart
4 Sept – Sydney
6 Sept – Brisbane
10 Sept – Darwin
12 Sept – Adelaide
