Barry Plant has welcomed the new owner of its 60-year strong Coburg location.
The network has announced that Fadi Khoder will be taking ownership of Barry Plant Coburg, completing the acquisition of the office from longstanding directors David Devlin and Rocco Siciliano.
Barry Plant’s Coburg outpost dates back to 1958, where the agency was originally established as the first EJ Doherty office.
Notably, the location was also the career starting point for founding Barry Plant Group director Vic Care who began as a salesman with the agency in 1970 and would go on to acquire the business in 1974.
Speaking on the transition in ownership, Care stated it was “great to see the Coburg office continues to uphold its ‘unparalleled reputation for integrity and great service’”.
“It’s one of the oldest real estate offices in Victoria and it was the genesis of everything we have today; though it has taken different forms and adopted different names, it still has its roots,” he said.
“It’s fantastic to see fresh energy and leadership reinvigorate this office, ensuring its legacy continues.”
Barry Plant described Khoder as a “prominent” member of the Coburg community, whose new appointment comes at a “tough and competitive” time for the area’s market.
Nonetheless, Barry Plant highlighted the new principal’s “deep connection” to Coburg, which has driven his commitment and optimism for the agency’s future.
“The original team has largely stayed with the business, we’re simply implementing more training and better guidance, and aligning our marketing with the fresh new Barry Plant branding,” said Khoder.
“It’s still a work in progress, but we are making some great changes and are already seeing very promising signs.”
This sentiment was echoed by Barry Plant head of marketing Monika Kamienowska, who relayed that Khoder’s “strategic marketing approach” and understanding of the “rich heritage” of the agency’s Coburg outpost render the new principal’s goals “well within reach”.
Devlin, former Coburg and current Barry Plant Craigieburn director, expressed that the office has seen “great success” but acknowledged that it was the “end of an era” for the agency.
“We now pass the baton onto Fadi to continue the legacy, and we have no doubt he will do the office and network proud,” said Devlin.
“He’s been in the business a long time, his experience, paired with his status in the area and surrounds, will give the office a new lease on life.”
Commenting on the development, Barry Plant CEO Lisa Pennell described the acquisition as an “important step in a broader strategy to strengthen the northern corridor for the brand”.
“Fadi is a fair and strategic leader who will no doubt identify the right people to bolster the business and empower them to achieve success,” the CEO concluded.
