Bringing over three decades of industry experience and a deep knowledge of the institute’s operations, the new board head takes over from outgoing president, Joe White.
Suzanne Brown has been elected as the new president of the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA), as of 11 October 2024.
Brown brings extensive experience to the role, having served as an REIWA council member since 2015. She held the position of deputy principal from 2022 to 2024, has participated on the finance and risk committee, and represented REIWA as one of its nominees on the property industry advisory committee.
REIWA CEO Cath Hart highlighted Brown’s 35 years’ experience as an agent and business owner in announcing her appointment, stating that she will bring “a wealth of knowledge to the role of president”.
“I, and the team at REIWA, look forward to working closely with Suzanne over the next two years as we continue to address key issues including housing supply, affordability and regulatory change,” Hart said.
Brown said she was “honoured” to have been elected president, stating: “I am grateful for the trust the council has placed in me, and I look forward to continuing the important work of advocating for our members and the wider community.”
“My focus will be on ensuring REIWA remains a strong voice in addressing housing affordability, boosting supply and supporting our members as we navigate evolving industry legislative conditions,” she added.
The new board leader also took time to acknowledge the “strong leadership and dedication” demonstrated by her predecessor, Joe White, during his two years at the helm of the institute.
This sentiment was echoed by Hart who thanked White for his “dedication to REIWA and our members over his term as president, particularly as our first regionally based president”.
“His leadership and strategic foresight have been integral to the institute’s progress during a time of significant change. His tireless efforts to champion our members’ interests and advocate for positive change in the industry will leave a lasting legacy,” Hart said.
Moving forward, White will remain on the REIWA council as a councillor, and will continue to represent the institute as a regional spokesperson.
The meeting of the REIWA council to elect the new president also saw Rob Mandanici appointed to the role of deputy president.
New office bearers for the finance and risk management committee were also appointed at the meeting, with Peta McKenzie named as the committee’s new chair, and Chris Tana elected as the new council nominee.
