Two capitals are set to hold over 1,000 auctions each this week, while all cities boast a robust schedule.

According to CoreLogic, there are 2,609 capital city homes scheduled for auction over the week ending 20 October 2024, which marks an increase on last week’s 2,598 as well as the figure for this time last year, which reached 2,463.

For the third week in a row, Melbourne will host more than 1,000 live auction events, with 1,111 homes hitting the block. Last week 1,091 homes in the Victorian capital went under the hammer, so this week’s figures represent a consecutive rise, though it’s slightly less than the 1,139 that went to auction this time last year.

Sydney will also hit the four-digit mark with 1,036 auctions scheduled to go to auction this week. It will be the third busiest auction week of the year for the NSW capital, besting last week’s 1,018 auctions.

In the smaller cities, Brisbane is set to host its second busiest auction week of the year with 231 homes scheduled for auction, up from 215 during the seven days prior. There are 144 auctions scheduled in Adelaide, down from 169 last week, while Canberra is set to see 69 homes go under the hammer, down from 90 one week ago.

Perth will host 17 auctions, and Tasmania has one on the schedule.

This week’s figures can be considered something of a prelude to expectations for the following week, when around 3,200 dwellings are expected to go to auction – the second busiest auction week of the year to date.
