Highland began its journey of raising funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation at its biannual Blue Lunch charity event, which is set to take place again this year.

The Blue Lunch has been a longstanding charity commitment for NSW property group Highland, who have been raising money for the hospital for 10 years, resulting in more than $2 million contributed over that time.

The latest edition of the event will take place on the 24th of October at Sydney Town Hall and is set to be a significant gathering, with an anticipated attendance of 600 people – a huge rise from the first, 180-person event held at Sealevel in 2014.

This year, The Blue Lunch is raising funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Innovative Base of Skull Service (BOSS), set to be the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

The newly launched service makes it easier for hospitals to perform base skull operations, particularly on small children. Sydney Children’s Hospital brings together specialists with advanced skills and training in rhinology, skull base and cystic fibrosis treatment. These experts use non-invasive technology to access and operate on areas of the brain previously considered difficult to reach.

This technology has gathered high results at the Sydney Children’s Hospital with eight-year-old Isaac Lee. Lee has undergone two major brain surgeries to reduce the size of a tumour discovered by doctors when he was just five years old. In a third attempt, specialists recommended the BOSS method, which allowed Isaac to return to school and his life with little interruption.

On The Blue Lunch initiative, network CEO David Highland said: “To know that we have directly contributed to easing these families’ burdens, if only slightly, is a great achievement for our group.”

Reflecting on the impact of the network’s charity events, he added: “Now, as a father of four, it is amazing to see how the $2 million we have raised in that time has benefited the foundation and helped kids in specialised care.”

The CEO noted that the network’s recent expansion – widening its reach into Sydney’s east and inner west suburbs – will also allow it to grow its philanthropic efforts.

He also acknowledged the ongoing support from his local network and clients, who have consistently backed The Blue Lunch over the last 10 years.

Having grown up in the Sutherland Shire and built the Highland brand with a group of like-minded, local property experts, it has been astounding to see the support our clients, our friends and families have been able to garner for the Sydney Children’s Hospital over the last 10 years,” Highland stated.

Highland’s head of brand and marketing, Rebecca Mulder, agreed: “It has been no small feat from our team to pull together this incredible event, but also [for] our community and our supporters who continually show up for us, for what is truly a magical day.”
