The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) has welcomed two regional community professionals into their ranks, bringing fresh insights to the peak body’s board of directors.
The REIQ has appointed Daniel Burrett and Nadine Edwards to its board of directors for a three-year term.
These positions were determined by a vote of the institute’s membership, with REIQ chairman Peter Brewer commending Burrett and Edwards on securing their positions “in a year where the number and quality of candidates was exceptional”.
The chairman described Burrett and Edwards as “highly ambitious and accomplished regional community leaders” from Toowoomba and Cairns respectively, who are renowned for their business acumen, strategic thinking abilities and unwavering professionalism”.
“Their considerable knowledge and experience will be of great benefit to the REIQ board and I look forward to the vision and enthusiasm they will bring,” Brewer said.
Speaking on his appointment, Burrett shared his enthusiasm about building on his contributions to the REIQ, stating that he aims to prioritise “digital communication, wellbeing support, and continuing professional development”.
With Burrett stepping down from his position of zone chair for Toowoomba which he held from 2021 to 2024, REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella announced Katie Knight as his successor for the remainder of the term.
Knight first served as Toowoomba’s zone chair in 2020 before stepping down during her maternity leave in 2021. Mercorella shared that the institute has “full confidence in her ability to support the REIQ’s goals in her zone and ensure the voices of Toowoomba’s real estate professionals are heard”.
Commenting on her election to the board of directors, Edwards said she was “grateful to those who supported and endorsed my nomination”, and called the position “an honour and a privilege”. She also added that she plans to bring the “same passion” she has for real estate to her new role.
Mercorella welcomed both of the new directors and highlighted the benefits of the newly refreshed and “diverse” board.
With Burrett and Edwards marking notable board additions as an under-35-year-old and female regional director respectively, Mercorella emphasised that “this composition ensures the perspectives around the table reflect the full breadth of our membership and the real estate business community”.
She also extended her thanks to the outgoing board directors, Josh Kindred and Linda Bland, who were not eligible for renomination.
