The Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) is once again joining forces with The Salvation Army to support its annual Christmas appeal.

REIWA continues to support The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal this year, alongside many Western Australians reaching out to lend a hand this holiday season.

From 4 November through 29 November, 46 REIWA member agencies across the state – most of which are located in Perth, with Dunsborough and Kalgoorlie agencies also taking part – will accept public donations of non-perishable food items and new unwrapped gifts, all intended to assist vulnerable individuals and families.

REIWA house in Subiaco will also serve as a primary drop-off point, with donations being accepted through Friday, 29 November.

REIWA’s chief executive officer, Cath Hart, underscored the importance of the initiative, noting that the holiday season can be particularly challenging for those facing financial hardships and rising cost-of-living pressures.

“The Salvation Army has experienced a strong increase in demand for their services over this year which is expected to increase as we head into Christmas,” Hart stated.

Hart highlighted the Christmas Appeal as a standout campaign within REIWA’s Community REInvest program, which has a long-term commitment to supporting The Salvation Army.

“Over the past decade, REIWA members have been proud to support vulnerable members of the community throughout the year with our Community REInvest program – the Salvos’ Christmas Appeal is a particularly special initiative where agents take meaningful action to help share the Christmas spirit among all West Australians,” Hart said.

Salvation Army spokesperson Warren Palmer emphasised the heightened importance of this year’s appeal, highlighting a surge in demand for support from Western Australians experiencing food and financial insecurity.

“We want to ensure that the spirit of Christmas can still visit those families and individuals, and our goal is to meet the needs of everyone who turns to us for help,” Palmer said.

Through the REinvest program, REIWA members have actively supported vulnerable community members year-round. Agents will also participate in the Salvos’ Christmas Cheer week this holiday season, helping sort donations and guide recipients in choosing gifts.

Palmer highlighted that REIWA’s REInvest partners are crucial in supporting homes as a “hub of hope” this Christmas.

“Our hope of achieving this rests with the support of those who can give,” he concluded.
