Two real estate professionals have joined McGrath as part of a new strategic partnership, aimed at expanding the agency’s south-east Brisbane footprint.
McGrath Estate Agents has announced a strategic partnership that will significantly enhance its presence in Brisbane’s south-east.
Queensland real estate professional Tony O’Doherty, alongside his business partner Jon Iceton, will join the group and rebrand their operations under the McGrath Bulimba banner.
O’Doherty highlighted the partnership’s opportunities for professional growth, stating that he has had a long desire to work with a top international brand.
“McGrath houses more than Top 100 REB agents across Australia, and success leaves clues. It’s a premium brand that has been able to help agents and clients throughout the country to connect and transact some of the finest properties within Australia,” O’Doherty stated.
He also highlighted that the collaboration will ensure that all his clients can have their properties serviced and marketed not just at a national level, but also reach global audiences.
“Within Queensland, the number one highest transacting agent is Alex Jordan. The ability to work alongside him, in the same brand, gives me an opportunity not only to learn but to collaborate with our clients, who will only benefit with this cross-river synergy, as they transact their most important asset,” O’Doherty said.
McGrath chief executive officer, John McGrath, lauded O’Doherty’s achievements, calling him an “explosive talent” and likening him to other top-tier agents in the McGrath network.
“What he’s done in the last five years is only matched by our own Alex Jordan in terms of their extraordinary results. Tony’s journey is fascinating. He started life in humble beginnings, migrated to Australia, and has made an incredible success of his career finding himself now among the best agents on the planet,” McGrath stated.
O’Doherty has been recognised as Queensland’s top principal from 2020 to 2024 for Belle Australia. His sales portfolio includes notable transactions such as a $7 million sale for a five-bedroom home located in Hawthorn, and a $5 million sale for a three-bedroom property in Bulimba. Additionally, he sold a five-bedroom residence in Camp Hill, for $3.75 million.
In the fiscal year 2024, O’Doherty’s total sales topped $208 million across a variety of price ranges.
Born in Ireland, O’Doherty’s upbringing on a family farm instilled strong values that resonate with his clientele. Since moving to Brisbane in 2011 and settling in Bulimba in 2014, he has become an advocate for the area.
“I have true family values that are reflective of many ethnic communities in the sense that family is a number one priority. It has given me the ability to really understand and relate to people on a genuine level and appreciate and respect the importance of community,” O’Doherty said.
McGrath Bulimba will oversee an extensive service area, from Bulimba and Hawthorne to Coorparoo, Holland Park, and Kangaroo Point. With a team of 16, including 11 sales professionals, the office is already making waves with 46 active listings, including high-profile properties.
The Bulimba area, including Balmoral and Hawthorne, is characterised by its riverside charm, family-friendly environment, and strong demand for quality properties. The suburbs feature a mix of Queenslander-style homes, modern architect-designed properties, and high-quality apartments.
Realestate.com.au shows that Median house prices in Bulimba stand at $1,872,500, with an annual growth rate of 2.32 per cent. Over the past 12 months, there have been 84 house sales, and houses typically spend about 26 days on the market. Family homes often command $1.5 million to $3 million, while units and townhouses attract young professionals and investors, typically ranging between $650,000 and $1 million.
Brisbane’s property market continues to draw an array of buyers, ranging from families in search of quality schools, parks and recreational amenities, to young professionals eager for easy access to the CBD, located just 4 kilometres away. Additionally, downsizers are increasingly attracted to low-maintenance, high-quality properties that emphasise a desirable lifestyle. This indicates a sustained demand for value-driven housing options in these thriving areas.
O’Doherty expressed excitement about upcoming developments, such as the Bulimba Barracks Neighbourhood Centre upgrade. The project aims to enhance the suburb’s appeal with new retail spaces, dining options and fitness facilities.
