In this industry and life in general, we often ask so many questions about dreams, goals, aspirations, achievements and success.
Sure, those questions are important, helping you define where exactly you want to be. But amid all that discussion about the ultimate outcome, there’s a singular question which often goes unasked but holds tremendous power:
“How much pain are you willing to go through to achieve your goals?”
Get comfortable being uncomfortable
This question isn’t an exercise in masochistic martyrdom where the aim is to inflict unnecessary pain on ourselves. Instead, it’s about acknowledging and accepting the sacrifices necessary for growth.
Like it or not, success doesn’t come without its share of struggles. To get where we need to go, we need to embrace discomfort, endure setbacks, and push past obstacles.
The pain isn’t necessarily physical and what constitutes pain will be different for different people. For some, pain might be rejection, for others it could be sacrificing personal time, or working long hours.
Regardless of what you see as pain, pushing past it involves the mental fortitude required to weather uncertainties, the perseverance to keep going when faced with adversity, and the dedication to go the extra mile.
Every successful transaction, every rave client review, and every milestone achieved comes with its own set of challenges.
Within those challenges, and indeed within every testing situation, lies the opportunity for growth, learning, and eventual success.
Changing how we view pain
The reason this question is so important is that it’s about transforming how we perceive pain.
It requires us to reimagine pain as an inevitable part of the journey, rather than an obstacle we need to avoid or overcome.
Instead, it’s about reframing the narrative and weighing the pain of discipline over the pain of regret; the pain of hard work over the pain of mediocrity.
Time to reframe your thinking
It begs the question, is it time to reconsider your thinking and reframe your relationship with pain?
Is it time to let go of the fear of discomfort and instead embrace it as an important and positive signpost on the path to achieving your goals?
Instead of being something to avoid, could that pain become fuel, motivation, and a reminder of your unwavering commitment to your ambitions?
The power of the question
When we confront the question of how much pain we are willing to endure head-on, we gain clarity, determination, and resilience.
We gain acceptance that the path may not necessarily be easy, but we also know what exactly we are willing to give and do in order for the result to come to fruition.
Ultimately, that acceptance gives us peace of mind. It allows the result to become achievable because it gives us the threshold and personal parameters in which it will be obtained.
If you’re currently considering where you are now and where you hope to be this time next year, I challenge you to ask that question and answer it honestly.
In doing so, you have the opportunity to unlock the true potential that lies within you.
Together, let’s commit to embracing the discomfort, pushing past our limits, and achieving greatness not just for ourselves but for the team you work with, the people you love, and the community you serve.
