It’s official. We are definitely in the “silly season”. Social events dot the daily calendar, school’s out for summer, and the shops are crowded with people seeking out last-minute Christmas gifts.
It’s busy, which might mean it’s a little tempting to take your foot off the accelerator. Well you could, but that’s not necessarily the best idea, and here’s why.
The hot list
Did I mention it’s busy? There’s parties to attend, people to see, presents to purchase, work tasks to finalise, and endless checklists to tick off as we count the days until the Christmas break.
Everyone is feeling that pressure. Everyone is super busy. So consider this… if people are contacting you regarding a property or attending an open home, they’re not doing so as an idle pastime. They are not tyre kicking.
It just makes logical sense that anyone making a real estate inquiry today or in the coming days is likely on the “hot” list.
After all, who has time to waste this time of year unless they are serious about buying or selling?
So, treat them that way, take them seriously with the response and care they deserve (as you should anyway).
Foot to the floor
Now, because the end of the year is in sight, you might be tempted to start winding down.
In fact, a couple of agents I’ve spoken with have indicated they intend to “peg back“ their prospecting over the next week or so. Um … not a good idea!
That’s what the competition will do. So be on the front foot and take advantage of the fact your competition will be absent.
Meanwhile, you want to hit the ground running when you come back from the break in the New Year, and there’s no better way to do that than lining up appraisals and leads for when you return.
Don’t put off until tomorrow what can be done today. Seize the opportunity when everyone is winding down.
The finish line
On that note … the finish line is never a finish line. It’s a reset.
Plan the remaining days until the break, plan your time off, and plan your return.
One of the best ways to return with motivation and momentum is to clearly identify exactly what you want to achieve during that first day and week back at work. Now is the time to do that.
Planning your return prior to going on holidays allows you to truly relax while you’re away. It ensures you come back refreshed, reinvigorated and re-energised, rather than spending your holiday thinking about work, making mental lists, and dreading the start of the year.
That’s important. We owe it to our family, our friends, and ourselves to be present and in the moment while enjoying a break from work.
That should be the reward for putting in the hard yards, extra effort, and long days when they’re required.
We’re a little under two weeks to the end of the year. So why not make the absolute most of the balance of 2024 so you can play an even bigger game in 2025?
