The peak body’s newest division president will use a mindset of continuous improvement to lead its ACT and Capital Region operations.

The Property Council ACT & Capital Region has announced its new division president, office bearers and division council for its 202527 term, following its annual general meeting earlier this week.

Managing director of JGS Property, James Service AM, has been elected president of the Property Council’s ACT & Capital Region division, succeeding outgoing president Phil O’Brien.

The council noted that Service was last year awarded ACT Division Life Membership of the Property Council of Australia, and brings extensive industry experience and commitment to his new role as division president.

Service shared that he was “honoured to be elected as division president of the Property Council ACT & Capital Region, the leading industry body representing the property sector here in Canberra and the region”.

Stepping into his new role, Service said he looks forward to working with his fellow division council members to “continue the proactive agenda the division has developed and will further capitalise on over the term of this government”.

“With our division council and with the broader membership, we will continue to work to harness the power of property, development, and the built environment to secure a prosperous future for all Canberrans and residents of the Capital Region,” he said.

Service also paid tribute to the division’s outgoing president, Phil O’Brien, who will remain on the division council in the role of “immediate past president”, for his service and commitment over the past two years.

“Phil has played a pivotal role in leading the division as it navigated a turbulent and tough economic period, characterised by some poor legislative outcomes,” Service said.

“The membership records its gratitude to Phil, and to retiring vice presidents Arabella Rohde and Andrew Balzanelli for their equally significant contributions,” he added.

Property Council ACT & Capital Region executive director, Ashlee Berry, said James and the new division council would “lead the division at a critical time”.

“I am thrilled to be working with James and the broader division council as we enter a period of stability and growth for the Property Council in the ACT & Capital Region, with a renewed focus on the priorities we took to the election last October,” Berry said.

“Our members are responsible for designing, developing and managing Canberra with great power comes great responsibility, and I am certain we have the right people at the table who can guide us through the next few years,” she concluded.
