With three months until the introduction of mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) for Queensland’s real estate professionals, the state’s peak body is leading its members through the transition.

From 6 June 2025, all practising real estate professionals, including agents, property managers, auctioneers and business brokers, must complete two approved CPD sessions annually to maintain their licences and registrations.

The new CPD requirements, set by the Office of Fair Trading, are designed to keep industry professionals updated on legislative changes, best practices and trends while promoting professionalism and ethical business conduct.

Under these guidelines, each licensed or registered individual must complete two approved CPD sessions annually, starting fro the anniversary of their original licensing date.

To assist professionals in navigating these changes, the OFT has made resources available on its website, including an online calculator tool designed to help determine each person's unquie first CPD year.

Antonia Mercorella, Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) CEO, said the peak body has long advocated for CPD to elevate the professionalism of Queensland’s real estate industry and help shape what it would look like in June.

“We advocated long and hard for CPD to raise the levels of professionalism of all practising real estate professionals across Queensland, and we’re committed to seeing it through to fruition.

“The REIQ is excited to lead Queensland’s real estate professionals through CPD and is dedicated to keeping everyone up to date on what to expect as it approaches,” Mercorella said.

To help industry professionals through the transition, the REIQ has started to develop training material.

The peak body will offer a range of CPD programs tailored to real-world real estate practices through face-to-face centres, live online courses and on-demand video recordings.

The REIQ will also provide tools for tracking completed training, ensuring professionals can easily keep track of the new requirements.

Mercorella noted that learning preferences vary among professionals, and the REIQ will ensure its CPD offerings cater to those needs.

“The REIQ is well-positioned to provide CPD programs that are highly practical to real-world real estate practice and reflect the evolving needs of professionals,” Mercorella said.

As the state’s peak body for real estate professionals, the REIQ is committed to making the transition to mandatory CPD as seamless as possible.

“Our goal is to make the CPD process as smooth as possible, so real estate professionals can focus on this as an opportunity to enhance their skills and service,” she added.
