The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) has appointed Peter Sherrie as its new national chief operating officer.
UDIA president, Col Dutton, said the appointment reflected the organisation’s commitment to evidence-based research, policy and advocacy on the housing crisis at all levels of government.
“We look forward to welcoming Peter to this timely appointment as we continue our focus on championing initiatives to bolster more diverse, median-priced and affordable housing supply, to enable Australians to find a place to call home,” Dutton said.
Sherrie, a long-time industry leader, was previously UDIA national president, Queensland state president, and life member at both state and national levels.
“I am delighted to be offered this opportunity which will allow me to continue to contribute to such an important industry which benefits all Australians in their everyday lives,” Sherrie said.
“With the housing crisis being front and centre of critical issues facing both sides of government, it will allow UDIA to play an important role in providing solutions on how to tackle these issues,” Sherrie said.
In line with UDIA’s 2025 Election Platform, Sherrie’s priorities will include housing policy infrastructure, coordination, funding for housing, and streamlining environmental approvals across federal and state bodies.
He will collaborate closely with UDIA state CEOs to align national and state-level advocacy efforts, and ensure all state membership priorities are considered and prompted within the federal government.
