Professionals Real Estate have shined the spotlight on its Nowra outpost, which will welcome the family business’s third generation of agents in its 50th year.

Founded in February 1975 by Clyde Poulton, Professionals Nowra is the longest continuously operating small independent real estate office in the Shoalhaven area.

The agency, which had operated for over 50 years, will soon have its third generation of real estate agents join the family business.

After the previously independent office joined the Professionals Real Estate network in 2006, ownership of the family-run business was passed to Clyde Poulton’s son, Karl Poulton, in 2015.

Karl continues to lead as principal and licensee to this day.

Over the years, Karl Poulton said the industry has changed considerably, with his father experiencing the changes firsthand and having to adapt.

“When he first started, he was on a first-name basis with the local photo developer in town, printing property images for window displays,” Karl said.

“This was long before digital listings, smartphones and online marketing,” he added.

While Karl acknowledged he had never planned to join the real estate industry, he believes he made the right decision when he returned to his hometown and joined the family business in 2004.

“When my wife and I moved back to Nowra, I joined Dad in the business and I loved the friendships formed with clients,” Karl said.

“I particularly enjoy helping first home buyers get into the property market, plus being a mentor to staff.”

Karl said that working with his father showed him that real estate is more than “just selling homes” and is instead about “being part of the fabric of the community”.

“Dad instilled in me the importance of giving back. He served as a local councillor and deputy mayor, and his legacy of service still resonates today,” Karl said.

Professionals Nowra has continued to embody these core values as a now third-generation family business, with Karl’s wife, Amanda, serving as general manager, and their eldest daughter, Jorja, in the process of obtaining her property licence.

Reflecting on Professionals Nowra’s half century of operation, Karl said the agency’s longevity is due to the decades-long relationships it has maintained with local families.

“More than 60 per cent of our business comes from repeat clients and referrals people who trust us, generation after generation,” Karl said.

“Right now, I’m helping a 90-year-old client transition into supportive care. It’s the third home sale we’ve managed for her family.”

Now employing a 12-member team, Professional Nowra’s commitment to delivering personalised service and local expertise has remained unchanged 50 years on.

“We’re proud to continue serving this community and evolving with its needs,” Karl concluded.
