The independents will consider franchises and small businesses generally as they negotiate with the Prime Minister and the leader of the Opposition this week, according to the Franchising Council of Australia (FCA).
FCA executive director Steve Wright said having spoken to all of the four in Canberra yesterday, he was positive that small business interests would be on the government's agenda.
"They all told me they are keen supporters of small business and have committed to putting small business interests high on their agenda," Mr Wright said.
According to Mr Wright, the same support is expected from Tasmanian independent Andrew Wilkie and new WA National Party MP Tony Crook, if they joined the Independents.
"This is good news for the sector," Mr Wright said.
"We are simply looking for stability," he said.
"We have had plenty of discussions about franchising rules from both sides of politics over the past two years. We now need a period of stability to allow the changes introduced on July 1 to settle."
