One real estate agent has used Facebook to sell a property.

Last week, First National Real Estate Lakeshores said it had completed its very first Facebook sale.

The Facebook sale occurred after the potential buyer contacted First National Principal Mark Millington via the group’s social media page, to discuss the upcoming weekend and the inspections she had planned.

Following several messages between Mr Millington and the buyer over the social media platform, Mr Millington arranged an inspection of the Wyee Point NSW-based property.

The buyers fell in love with the property and subsequently made an offer that was later accepted.

“The social media phenomenon has become an important component of real estate marketing in recent years but many real estate agencies have failed to grasp its true value,” Mr Millington.

The estate agency operates a Facebook page with over 200 active followers and regularly posts updates about new listings, sales, competitions, interest rate movements and community events.

“To ignore the opportunities social media presents is to cut off people selling their homes from a vast pool of potential buyers,” Mr Millington said.

“Agents need to make sure they are accessible via social media and must be prepared to engage with consumers on their terms.”
